Table of Contents:

In order to create my magazine, I must understand all of the components of a magazine. Today I will be researching the table of contents page in order to further understand its functions and get a thorough understanding of it in order to replicate it when the time comes. Despite the Table of Contents being a brief and simple addition to a magazine, it serves a very important purpose.

Where is it Located:

  • The table of contents is always found on the first page of the magazine.
  • It is many times found on the right side of the first two-page spread because that is the first page that is usually seen by readers. 
  • The table of contents can be one page or a two-page spread
  • Many times, the table of contents can also be on tow separate pages with an advertisement separating them through the middle.
  • Otherwise, ad pages are usually always located on the right side 
  • It is crucial to have a good design for this page
  • Readers must understand what the page numbers are, what the headline is, and what is the description of each when reading the table of contents.

Purpose of a table of contents:

  • The purpose is to allow readers to identify what the magazine contains
  • It for allows readers to easily find the page that they are looking for
  • It also can many times include a short description of the topic of the page

Target Market: A very important aspect to consider next in my magazine is the demographics. In other words, what is my target audience or the people that will be reading this. This is extremely important because I must make the magazine with the intention of appealing to my target demographic. So if I were to make a magazine on cooking, my target audience will be depending on the content of my magazine. If I were to be doing the magazine on homemade recipes, I would most likely be targeting mothers and fathers, or even those who like to cook at home. The same goes for automotive and fitness magazines. I will have to establish my target audience in order to best meet their needs. My "Single Vehicle" Cover Examples

My Samples: After I have analyzed and viewed the different options for a possible automobile magazine cover, it is now time to incorporate what I have learned about the images and take my own photographs. I want to get a feel for the process of taking these pictures and I would like to see which type of magazine cover I will be most comfortable with. The whole point of this project is to create the most successful magazine I possibly can, so that means I have to try many different options and see which I am best at.
