Factors That Affect Color Scheme in Fitness
Fitness Magazine
As I continue to decide which type of magazine I would like to follow through with, I will continue to identify certain aspects that I would incorporate in my magazines. Since my last post went over the guidelines for properly choosing a color scheme, I believe that I should begin to think of a color scheme for my fitness magazine. The color scheme will be dependent on many factors. Once those factors are identified, then an appropriate color scheme can be made.
Factors That Affect Color Scheme in Fitness:
- Clothing of the individual: The type of clothing that is worn by the person in the front cover (If I choose to use a person) has a very big impact on the color scheme. For example, if the individual has very tight clothing that really defines their curvature, then a color that shows those lines should be used. If the individual is without a shirt, then the color scheme would also be affected.
- Color of the person or clothing: Both of these things affect the color scheme that should be used. If the person is of a darker complexion, then a lighter background should be used with darker lettering. If the person being used is of lighter complexion, then a darker background and lighter lettering would probably make the best contrast. The same applies to clothing; if it is dark, then a lighter background will contrast it and vice-versa.
- Pose/ Position of the person and facial expression: Depending on the pose being made, a color scheme can allow for it to further stand out. This is a very complicated strategy and very subtle, but it can make a change in the reader's perception of the magazine. For example, if the person in the picture has a serious face with their arms crossed, one would benefit from a more aggressive color scheme which usually involves darker colors.
- Intention and tone of the magazine: This can go along with the previous factor, however, the facial expressions and the pose of the individuals is not the only thing that can establish a tone. The color scheme itself can set a tone. So with this in mind, if you are trying to achieve an aggressive tone, you would benefit from darker colors. This may be the case with topics such as powerlifting and bodybuilding that may want to be established as much more aggressive and serious branches of simply working out.
